It’s common for writers to have a goal for themselves when it comes to writing their fiction or non-fiction work. Whether it be word count milestones, avoiding purple prose, or piecing together enough description that the reader feels that they are in the story themselves, just far in the corner observing every character to the best of their ability.
My goal currently is to wield description creatively and to write regularly, no longer waiting idly for a spark. Writer’s block can be frustrating for many authors. I think this block though can be used, especially for Christians to dive deeper. This is something I want to begin. Even today. To be so intentional in my writing by being so intentional in my communication and relationship with God.
If I want to be honest with my characters and their development, I have to be honest about my own. I need to go on this personal journey, feel the motions of my reality so that I can better express the same for my characters, whether their reality takes on a very literal form or symbolic one.
This is definitely the beginning of the journey. One I hope to share more about. It will focus mostly on how my writing has changed as I delve deeper in my walk with God— if not fully on that topic.
To make my characters more alive, don’t I have to become more alive? That is what I will do, through Christ.
Your sister in Christ,
Briana
